Not a Waukegan card holder?

You need an active Waukegan Public Library card to download digital materials. If you live in Waukegan and don’t have a library card, get one! If you live outside Waukegan, try contacting your home library to learn about their eBook collection.

Download an eBook

1. Create OverDrive account.

Download the OverDrive app from the Nook Shop.  When the app opens, tap Sign Up to create an OverDrive account and fill out the required information.

2. Get books.

You should now see the OverDrive home screen.  Tap the Get Books icon in the top right corner.

3. Add a library.

Tap Add a Title.  If this is your first time using the OverDrive app, you will need to add the Waukegan Library as a preferred library.  Search for the library by zip code and tap Waukegan Public Library to select it.  Tap the star to add the library to your Saved Libraries list.

4. Search for an eBook.

Tap Waukegan Public Library to visit the eBook catalog.  You can search for a specific title or author, or you can browse by subject or collection.

5. Select a book.

When you find a book that you'd like to download, tap Borrow, or tap the circle with three dots to read a sample or get more information about the book.

6. View checked out titles.

Once you tap Borrow, log in with your library card number.  Once the book has been checked out, a blue message will appear at the top of your screen.  Tap Loans to view your checked out titles.

7. Select a format.

Tap Choose a Format and select EPUB eBook.  This should automatically add the title to your bookshelf.

8. Go to bookshelf.

Tap the menu button in the top left corner, then tap Bookshelf to view your newly downloaded title!

9. Return a book early.

Navigate to your Bookshelf in the OverDrive app.  Tap and hold the item you'd like to return, then tap Return to Library.  The title will automatically be removed from your account and made available for the next person.
